Commencing in August PEER is seeking motivated people to undertake a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical (general), combining formal training with real-world experience in South Australia's thriving defence and advanced manufacturing sectors through the Shipbuilding Employment Pathways Initiative. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop practical hands on skills while attending formal training at TAFE SA, Regency Park. What You'll Learn As an apprentice, you will receive training and experience in: - Manual metal arc (stick) and MIG welding.
- Lathe and milling machine operations.
- General machining and mechanical cutting.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Precision measuring and engineering calculations.
- Using hand tools, power tools, and precision equipment safely.
- Mechanical fitting, assembly, and repair of engineering components.
- Bearing installation, removal, and fault diagnosis.
- Maintenance and repair of mechanical drives and transmission assemblies.
- Machine levelling and alignment.
- Planning work activities and organising tasks.
- Safe work practices and environmentally sustainable work methods.
- Working effectively within a team and communicating in a manufacturing environment.
- Using workplace technology and computer systems.
About You

- Enjoys problem-solving and working with tools and machinery.
- Has good attention to detail and takes pride in producing quality work.
- Can follow instructions and work safely at all times.
- Is reliable, punctual, and committed to completing both on-the-job and off-the-job training.
- Works well both independently and as part of a team.
- Has a drivers licence
